09/26/2008 - Julia Isaac featured at WIld Iris Books for Gainesville Art Walk"In the smallness of the paint lies the madness..."
I am 43, a native of Gainesville, graduated from UF in Psychology, and have worked in psychiatry for the last 7 years. I started painting about 4 years ago, but consider myself an artist since childhood. My paintings mostly require time to see a story unfold. Some have major themes; war, loss, natural forces at work. Some are as simple and uncomplicated as a tree. I work from my subconscious. I "fall asleep", so to say. There is no intentionality. In fact, if I try to paint, it comes out with strain and difficulty. My process lies in the accident.

08/30/2008 - Burnout / Chronic Fatigue & Meditation
Friends of Wild Iris presents:
"Meditation as a pathway to help Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Burnout"
-- a free talk by Samantha Keen
Fatigue is a fact of many people’s daily life. Our vitality is often drained by the need to rush through life, facing conflicting pressures, ongoing stimulation from computers, telephones and media, unhealthy food and of course pollution. Although many people feel ongoing fatigue, there are some whom it affects more than others. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating degree of daily fatigue affecting between one in 500 and one in 200 people according to statistics collated in the US and Britain.
Samantha Keen will talk about recovering from CFS and burnout using the meditation techniques of the Clairvision School. Samantha recovered from her own experience of CFS using these techniques. The whole system of Clairvision works on the mind, vitality or life force and spiritual connection. Samantha has also helped many others to use these same techniques to recover from CFS and/or burnout. She is currently writing a book on the same topic, with the publication expected in 2009.
Wild Words Cafe will have soda, beer, wine, coffee, tea, & various snacks available for purchase.
